Before listing your tips below, add one last sentence that sums up your paragraph or offers a smooth transition to your listicle.
Tip #1 - Food is only one form of nourishment.
There are many ways to nourish your being. Food and water, of course, are physical necessities. We would not be able to sustain our physical being for very long without those two elements of nourishment. However, there are other aspects to our being. We have a mind, a soul, and emotions. And yes...we need to nourish those aspects of our being as well. Tune into our blog each month to get tips on how to get the best primary and secondary nutrition for our body, mind and soul.
Tip #2 -Everything starts in the gut
Have you ever had a "gut" feeling? Where do you think that term came from? It is said that our gut is our "second brain". That could explain why we feel things in our gut. The gut is known technically as the enteric nervous system. It is full of nerve endings all the way through the digestive system. Not only is the gut responsible for the digestive process of food and nutrients, but also of other systems such as emotions. The nerves in or guts may be partly responsible for helping to process our emotions. The butterflies we feel in out stomach is part of the stress response in the gut. The enteric nervous system uses more than 30 neurotransmitters and about 95 percent of the body's serotonin is also found here. The gut also plays a large roll in our immune system. About 70% of our immune system is aimed at our gut to address the bacteria. There is so much we can learn using our "second-brain". Stayed tuned each month as we continue the conversations about gut health.
Tip #3 - I'm obsessed with Ayurveda
This was a bit of a new concept for me. I discovered this practice during my studies at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition. This was one of the many lifestyle theories we studied during my certification and education at IIN. I bought the book, attended the lecture and I was hooked. I was so intrigued I then signed up to become a yoga teacher as yoga is the sister science to Ayurveda. So, what is it you ask?
Ayurveda, a natural medicinal practice that originated in India more than 3,000 years ago. Ayurveda comes from the Sanskrit words ayur (life) and veda (knowledge). Ayurveda translates to knowledge of life. Based on the idea that disease is due to an imbalance or stress in a person's consciousness, Ayurveda encourages certain lifestyle interventions and natural techniques to regain a balance between the body, mind, spirit, and the environment. To learn more, check in each month for more in depth education about the many fascinating theories and of this rich science. Next month we will explore the doshas, the life forces that are the primary basis for Ayurveda
